I say losing because you always seem to lose something with Garmin "upgrades". Just give it a try because you can always just reinstall 6.
I think the later versions are far better from a visual standpoint and you now can select the icon size. Why not have both versions available to you? You can do it by renaming the old Mapsource. Thanks for advising, Just got it Me, too.
A quick download and easy installation. If only City Navigator Map updates went so fast. Just downloaded v 6. I didn't find the "costum waypoint" where it used to be??! Can anyone tell me where to find it! I may buy the update for my Nuvi and then just let it age out, ie replace the unit in I'll be watching for the release.
A few years ago my GPS took me to a Friendly's restaurant for lunch. The problem was that it had been sold and converted into a Mosque and I couldn't have lunch there. Question: I have a Nuvi and I bought my college kid a Nuvi for christmas. If I sign up for the maps for life. Can I use it to update both and ? Just curious. I'm not a professional driver.
I update my map every years. That's plenty for me. April 31? I guess that must equal May 1? Considering the speed with which restaurants pop up and fold, you are better off to find a POI file here. I have downloaded files for some of my favourite restaurants and found tons of new locations and quite a few "relocations" compared to the map version I am using from Garmin. I am not being critical of Garmin, but the user-created files on this site are much better for personal use.
According to information I got on here a while back the POI's supplied with the unit can be anywhere from 4 to 8 years old. In the case of some categories, restaurants in particular, that can be very much out of date. I agree that you're much more likely to get current information on here. Well, at least I hope they get all of the road changes because they are changing what used to be called "Malfunction Junction".
On the NavTeq map they have incorporated the change I requested about a year ago. Hopefully it will be in the update. I'll be downloading the new map later once my new 's backup is complete and reporting back in the new thread. I'm downloading the map update now. It showed this morning when I logged into my My Garmin account as an available update for my lifetime maps Subscription. It shows up when you click on the updated map details link and opens the screen to complete the download.
Has anybody tapped into the grapevine and can share some news? There is thread about I have downloaded them using my Lifetime Maps. May want to watch the other thread for a bit to see how thi works out. How long does it take to download the new maps on line. I am on a DSL line. I can get it to download to the computer, but I can't get it to go to my Something about a problem connecting to the Garmin server or something like that. Any good hints or is it just server is busy.
I was getting the "" error last night, but not getting it this morning. I guess I will try again over the weekend and see what happens. I downloaded on and it took 12 hours on a sprint 3g network. About 8 hours into the download I was tired of waiting and just out of boredum I clicked on the pause button.
Restarted in about 30 seconds and download speed improved greatly.
